Question:
To ask the Minister for Communities to detail any budget Sport NI has in place for the hosting of training camps for Northern Ireland athletes prior to next year's Commonwealth Games.

Answer:
This issue is an operational matter for Sport NI.
I have sought the requested information from the Chief Executive, who has advised me as follows:
“There are two areas within Commonwealth Games Northern Ireland (CGNI) current budget that is directed towards camps for Commonwealth Games athletes prior to the games for this period:
Team NI Hub & Support Camp – Support camp that will be based in Glasgow ahead of the event.
Combined Camp – Yearly high-performance camp held in NI aimed at bringing CGNI athletes and support personnel together.
Please see table 1 below for detail.

£10,000 has been spent to secure accommodation in 2024/25 for the Team NI Hub & Support Camp; and £14,170 spent for a coach/practitioner event held in Belfast in January 2025.
Year 3 and Year 4 funding is pending approval by the Sport NI Board. At present, no training camps have been planned or scheduled. Sport NI will be requesting a project plan from CGNI now that funding for 2025/26 and 2026/27 has passed the Committee stage and is proceeding to Sport NI Board.
For any future queries relating to operational matters, you may wish to contact Sport NI directly.  Making direct contact with the ALB will ensure that you receive the information in the shortest possible timeframe and make the best use of public resources.
