Question:
To ask the Minister for the Economy for her assessment of the likelihood of Northern Ireland achieving the 80 per cent renewable energy consumption target by 2030.

Answer:

One of my four critical objectives for the Economy is to reduce carbon emissions; generating sufficient renewable electricity is key to facilitate this change. We must build on our previous success in renewables development and the Executive needs to take a collaborative, whole system approach to facilitate delivery of the 80% by 2030 target. Whilst my Department has legislative responsibility for the target, collaboration across departments and with wider stakeholders, including industry, will be essential to the successful delivery of this target.
