Question:
To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs to detail any immediate action being taken to investigate and address recent media reports of illegal puppy farmers euthanising dogs due to reduced demand.

Answer:

My Department is aware of the media report and has been in contact with local councils to ascertain whether the claim in relation to euthanising dogs is substantiated. However, no council has received reports to support the claim, nor is the Department aware of any evidence indicating such activities are occurring.

Local councils are responsible for enforcing legislation pertaining to animal welfare and dog breeding and any concerns should be addressed to them for further investigation.
