Question:
To ask the Minister of Health when he will publish a strategy for addressing obesity.

Answer:

My Department’s ‘A Fitter Future for All,’ obesity prevention strategy for Northern Ireland, remains extant, with partners and stakeholders continuing to deliver against the set of 52 outcomes agreed in 2019/2020.

Since the close of the consultation on the ‘Healthy Futures’ Obesity Strategic Framework in 2024, my Department has been working through the detail of the responses and looking at the wider research and evidence base. In addition, my Department has been engaging with colleagues across the UK and Ireland to consider emerging developments for those living with overweight and obesity.

Work on finalising the consultation response report is complete, and the consultation report will be published shortly. Work to finalise the ‘Healthy Futures’ obesity strategic framework is now well underway, with an aim to publish this in 2025, subject to agreement and the availability of resources.
