A stepped care approach is taken to supporting service users with their mental health, matching a person’s need with the right level of support. The You in Mind, Regional Care Pathway, explains how a person who may require mental health support, can access mental health care, and the steps involved. This pathway includes specialist mental health services. There are a range of specialist mental health services accessible to service users, including for example the Forensic Mental Health Service, Psychological Therapy Services, Peri Natal Mental Health Service and Eating Disorders Service. Where following assessment, clinical and risk factors indicate that admission is necessary, Trusts endeavour to arrange admission to an acute mental health unit within their own Trust, closest to the address of the patient. Where there is no immediately available bed, the Trust will consider alternative options within their Trust facilities. In exceptional circumstances, where no suitable bed can be found, and where deemed critically necessary for the safety and wellbeing of the patient, a bed may have to be sourced from another Trust. Patients will be involved in all decisions involving their care and treatment.
