Question:
To ask the Minister of Health to outline what procedures are followed for the disposal or repurposing of decommissioned diagnostic scanners.

Answer:
Health and Social Care Trusts have waste and asset management policies and procedures in place so that assets no longer required are disposed of in a safe and appropriate manner in accordance with the relevant legislation and best practice.
Diagnostic scanners may be deemed no longer required if surplus to requirements, obsolete, beyond economic repair or at the end of their useful life. If the scanner is beyond repair or use, it must be disposed of in compliance with the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Regulations.
