Question:
To ask the Minister of Health, pursuant to AQW 21422/22-27, whether any further (i) trials; (i) proof of concepts; and (iii) pilot projects related to the use of artificial intelligence in the health service are currently (a) underway; and (b) under consideration by his Department or any of the Health and Social Care Trusts.

Answer:
My department continues to assess how artificial intelligence (AI) can be used to manage resources more effectively, ensuring that clinical resources are targeted where they have the greatest impact. Areas which are being considered include the use of AI within Radiology departments and the application of AI to support demand analysis to allow better planning and targeting of healthcare resources. Other areas include the use of AI to support pre-operative assessment services to ensure better assessment of surgical risk. However robust testing and evaluation will be necessary to ensure the safety and effectiveness of AI in healthcare.
Looking ahead, we are committed to expanding AI capabilities through strategic partnerships, investment in digital infrastructure, and workforce training. These efforts are part of a broader vision to deliver a more responsive, data-driven, and patient-centred health service.
