Question:
To ask the Minister for Communities to confirm if he is considering to permit for-profit businesses to operate in the social housing market.

Answer:

I am not considering permitting for-profit businesses to operate in the social housing market. It is specified in legislation that Registered Housing Associations may not trade for profit.

However, Registered Housing Associations may leverage private investment. As part of my work on the Housing Supply Strategy I am considering how to develop further sources of investment to better augment social housing delivery.
