Question: To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs to outline any major environmental decisions he plans to bring to the Executive before the end of the 2022-27 Assembly Mandate.
Answer:
The DAERA Corporate Plan 2025-27 provides a framework for my Department’s work over the remainder of this Executive’s mandate. It is built around eight key interconnected priorities that guide our work and includes ten key pledges that we will work tirelessly to deliver by the end of this Assembly mandate. To this end, I will bring forward for Executive approval several matters relating to the environment. These are set out in the table below. A Nature Recovery Strategy | The Northern Ireland Peatland Strategy | An Ammonia Strategy | A Clean Air Strategy | A revised Nutrients Action Programme 2026 - 2029 | A Waste Management Strategy | Measures for Climate Action and a Circular Economy in Northern Ireland | Proposals for strengthening environmental governance in Northern Ireland | Introduction of a Fisheries and Water Environment Bill | A Remediation Strategy for the Mobuoy site | A Wildfires Strategy (Wildfires in Northern Ireland: A Strategic Way Forward) | The Third Northern Ireland Climate Change Adaptation Programme (NICCAP3) | Regulations to set the fourth carbon budget (CB4) to cover the period 2038-2042 | Designation of Inner Belfast Lough Shellfish Waters Protected Area as a sensitive area | Potential developments to the UK Emissions Trading Scheme | Climate Action Plan 2023-2027 | Green Growth Strategy |
