Question:
To ask the Minister for Infrastructure to outline why both the Cookstown and Ballynahinch bypasses were redesigned following the introduction of the Climate Change Act (Northern Ireland) 2022, when the A5 Western Transport Corridor was not redesigned.

Answer:
I can confirm that neither the Cookstown nor Ballynahinch bypasses were redesigned following the introduction of the Climate Change Act (Northern Ireland) 2022.
The A5WTC has been continually refined, throughout its design and development, to adopt policies around reduced emissions as far as possible, including contractual commitments, for example PAS 2080:2023 Carbon Management in Buildings and Infrastructure.
