To ask the Minister of Justice for an update on the current funding provision for the PSNI.

ANSWER

PSNI’s opening Non-ringfenced Resource budget for 2024-25 was £807.7m including £31.2m of Additional Security Funding.

Additional allocations of £23m from June Monitoring and ear marked funding for the Tackling Paramilitarism Programme, Legacy Inquests, the Gillen review and NI Protocol/Windsor Framework brought PSNI’s 2024-25 Non-ringfenced Resource budget to a current total of £844.5m.

The PSNI reported pressures of £36.8m in a recent urgent in-year exercise for consideration by the Executive as part of October monitoring.

PSNI is facing significant budgetary challenges in 2024-25 and beyond. However, I remain committed to working with the Chief Constable, the Minister of Finance and my Executive colleagues to ensure that we have a Police Service that is funded appropriately.
