To ask the Minister for the Economy to detail what oversight her Department currently has over funeral directors, including any role of Trading Standards or the Consumer Council.

Answer:

My department has no remit regarding regulation of funeral services, beyond the interest of the Trading Standards Service, which is solely from a consumer protection perspective and is covered under existing consumer protection legislation. The Consumer Council has no specific statutory duty in relation to funeral services.
