To ask the Minister of Justice whether she will engage with the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs to address the legislative gap in the recognition and regulation of therapy or emotional-support animals.

Answer:

The lead department for issues around animal regulation is the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA). I would encourage the Member to write to DAERA if she wishes to raise this matter. My department follows all the appropriate guidance in relation to the welfare and well-being of animals in our care and will continue to prioritise that.
