Question:
To ask the Minister of Education to detail how he will ensure that all children have access to high quality and inclusive childcare, including those with special educational needs or language barriers.

Answer:
The provision of high-quality inclusive childcare for children with additional needs and to support parents working non-standard hours has been identified by stakeholders as a priority. Proposals will be included within the draft Early Learning and Childcare Strategy I plan to bring forward to the Executive in the coming weeks.
While the Department of Education does not have a role in setting pay or terms and conditions for childcare staff for a sector which is largely made up of private providers, the draft Strategy will include proposals to support the childcare workforce, including training needs, recruitment and retention challenges.
