Question: To ask the Minister of Education to detail any consideration being given to the provision of childcare support during non-standard working hours, to enable parents in shift work to remain in employment.
Answer:
The provision of high-quality inclusive childcare for children with additional needs and to support parents working non-standard hours has been identified by stakeholders as a priority. Proposals will be included within the draft Early Learning and Childcare Strategy I plan to bring forward to the Executive in the coming weeks. While the Department of Education does not have a role in setting pay or terms and conditions for childcare staff for a sector which is largely made up of private providers, the draft Strategy will include proposals to support the childcare workforce, including training needs, recruitment and retention challenges.
