Question: To ask the Minister for the Economy to outline any plans to (i) extend banking and postal services available through local post offices; and (ii) expand the range of government services offered through them.
Answer:
Postal services are a reserved matter. The British Government is currently consulting on the future of the Post Office via its Green Paper. The paper does include proposals on continuance and augmentation of services, including provision of postal and other critical services including banking, government and utility bill-payment services, to those who cannot or will not get them elsewhere. The Consumer Council is currently preparing a response for submission by 6 October deadline.
