Question:
To ask the Minister of Education whether his Department will pilot green roof projects in schools, to improve biodiversity and reduce energy use.

Answer:

My Department has no specific plans to pilot green roof projects in schools. It is committed to ensuring all new build schools improve biodiversity and are as energy efficient as possible. During the design process various options are considered on a case by case basis and the most suitable solutions are identified, balancing the schools day to day running and maintenance requirements with energy and biodiverse targets.
