Answer:
AQO 2520 22-27 - ANSWER
My officials are working with justice, health and housing partners to develop a pilot bail support scheme to offer the Judiciary a robust and viable alternative to remand.  A framework has been shared with voluntary sector partners to seek views and determine the level of market interest in delivering the scheme.

There has been significant engagement with statutory and voluntary sector partners, including those with a lived experience to garner support, discuss potential challenges and shape the scheme accordingly.

The pilot will initially support women to remain in the community while awaiting the outcome of their case, providing support to live independently, whilst helping address any offending behaviours.  The importance of suitable housing is a key supporting factor with regards to bail compliance.  The scheme seeks to include accommodation for a number of women that otherwise would not be granted bail.

Subject to the identification of a delivery partner, it is anticipated that the scheme will be implemented in early 2026.
