Question: To ask the Minister of Education to detail any support provided to parents in order to improve a child’s school attendance, following prosecution for non-attendance.
Answer:
An Education Welfare Officer continues to work with pupils and their families after Court Action in a constructive manner to support the achievement of an acceptable level of school attendance. If progress is not made and maintained, then consideration is given to the need for further legal action being taken by the Education Authority. Cases are reviewed by the Education Welfare Service (EWS) during professional supervision and at EWS Complex Case Panels.
