Question: To ask the Minister for Infrastructure to detail any measures she can introduce to improve road safety along Windsor Avenue, Belfast, for pupils at St Brides Primary School.
Answer:
Road safety is a high priority for my Department, and we are committed to working proactively to make our roads safer and to address the needs of all road users. We are acutely aware that children and young people are amongst the most vulnerable groups using our roads, particularly around schools. However, my department has been operating in a difficult financial environment for a number of years due to limited budget resources, meaning we must prioritise our interventions to those locations deemed most in need. Regrettably, when assessed against these competing priorities, the location did not score highly enough for inclusion of a controlled crossing in the 2025/26 works programme. The scheme will, however, remain on our list for future consideration should funding become available The most recent traffic calming assessment in Windsor Avenue was conducted in 2021, and I have asked my officials to undertake a review of this location given the passage of time.
