Question: To ask the Minister for Infrastructure to detail any discussions she has had with the Department of Finance, regarding potential regulatory or legislative measures to increase transparency and competition in the motor insurance market.
Answer:
Insurance is a reserved matter, with its legislation and regulation overseen by British Government authorities, including Treasury. My officials and I have engaged with the Department of Finance (DoF) and industry stakeholders on issues relating to motor insurance throughout the year. Finance Minister O’Dowd and I met with Lilian Greenwood, the British Government’s Minister for the Future of Roads, to discuss local motor insurance matters. During the discussion, we provided our input for consideration by the British Government’s wider Motor Insurance Taskforce and received a comprehensive update from Minister Greenwood on the Taskforce’s work.
