Question: To ask the Minister for Infrastructure to detail the resurfacing works carried out in Moira, in the last 12 months.
Answer:
My Department has been operating in a difficult financial environment for a number of years due to underfunding and austerity by the British Government. Whilst there are many roads that would benefit from investment, including those in Moira village, due to limited budget resources resurfacing work is taken forward through the prioritisation of those deemed most in need of intervention. Details of the resurfacing schemes completed in 2024/25 and planned for the 2025/26 financial year are included in my Department’s Annual Report to Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council. One NI Water Utility lid defect was identified during the inspection on 4 November 2025which was referred to NI Water for action. I am advised that this utility lid has now been replaced. Subsequent to this inspection three further defects were noted on Main Street, Moira between 11 November 2025 and 5 December 2025. One has been completed and the other two are programmed with our internal contractor. A further defect was noted close to the junction of Station Road and Main Street, Moira on 5 December 2025 and this has been repaired. A routine highway inspection was completed in Main Street, Moira over 16 and 17 December 2025. One defect was identified and this has been issued to the contractor for repair. In addition, works are planned to repair an area of flagged footway close to the doctor’s surgery. This work is expected to be completed in January 2026.
