Question:
To ask the Minister for Infrastructure to detail any planned works to improve the safety of the Saintfield Road, at the junction with Old Ballynahinch Road, following a number of recent serious collisions at this location.

Answer:

Road safety is a high priority for my Department, and we are committed to working proactively to make our roads safer and to address the needs of all road users.

I can advise that my officials are developing a preliminary design to change the layout of this junction.

The development of this scheme will involve detailed design, accommodation works, land acquisition, funding and a separate procurement process. We are also considering additional traffic management measures that could be introduced to improve road safety in the short term.

Concerns relating to driver behaviour should be reported to the PSNI using their 101 number.
