Question:
To ask the Minister for the Economy, pursuant to AQW 37250/22-27, to detail any engagement she has had with the Utility Regulator, either in advance of or following her policy decision to deliver fairer grid connection charges, in relation to the Utility Regulator's willingness to consider additional charges for electricity consumers in future price controls.

Answer:

My Department and the Utility Regulator collaborated significantly in the development of the Fairer Grid Connection costs policy. My Department continues to work with the Utility Regulator and NIE Networks to bring this change through as quickly as possible, with change expected to take effect in the first half of 2026.

Connections made during the price control period will be funded through the RP7 Price Control Determination. Considerations in respect of future price controls will be for the Utility Regulator to determine at that time.
