Question: To ask the Minister of Education to detail the number of children (i) assessed by an educational psychologist; and (ii) who were waiting to be assessed by an educational psychologist, in the 2024-2025 school year.
Answer:
The Education Authority has advised: the number of children who had been assessed by the Educational Psychology Service from 01 September 2024 to 31 August 2025 is: Cases closed | Stage 2 Assessment | Stage 2 Review | Statutory Advice | Statutory Review | Total | 2024/25 | 2726 | 264 | 4694 | 1839 | 9523 |
Depending on the date of referral, some children will not be included in the figures above. The Educational Psychology Service has up to 26 weeks to complete Stage 2 Assessments, Statutory Advice must be completed within a 6-week timeframe, and Statutory Reviews take place once per term. As a result, not all cases fall within the reporting period.
