Question: To ask the First Minister and deputy First Minister, in light of the recently published Individual Wellbeing in Northern Ireland Report 2024-2025, to detail how the effectiveness of interventions to improve wellbeing in people living in deprived communities will be measured over the next 12 months.
Answer:
Interventions are monitored at both population and programme levels. The Executive Office uses official statistics such as the Individual Wellbeing in Northern Ireland report to track wellbeing at a population level and to examine inequalities among different groups in our society. For programmes delivered in The Executive Office, departmental statisticians work closely with policy colleagues at a programme and project level to provide guidance on how the effectiveness of interventions can be measured, supporting on the development of suitable metrics, advising on reliable data collection methods and ensuring robust analysis and reporting of results. In relation to deprivation, data is generally collected based on the location of the project being delivered, rather than for individual participants. As a proxy, this supports assessment of the effectiveness of interventions to improve wellbeing for people living in the most deprived areas. This approach is ongoing and will continue over the next 12 months and beyond.
