Question:
To ask the Minister of Education to detail any role his Department is undertaking in opening up, and enhancing, school hockey facilities for community use.

Answer:

Under my Curriculum-Led Capital Investment Programme one of the strands available to post primary schools is the provision of synthetic pitches to schools who do not currently have access to one.

The intention of my Programme is to assist schools in delivering the Physical Education element of the Curriculum. However, there will be the possibility for schools to consider opening their facilities to the wider community and departmental officials will be working in conjunction with SportNI’s Your School, Your Club initiative to promote community use of these facilities.
