To ask the Minister for Communities, pursuant to AQW 40243/22-27, to detail (i) the reasons for the acquisition of these properties; and (ii) any current or future plans for their use.

Answer:

This issue is an operational matter for the Northern Ireland Housing Executive.

I have sought the requested information from the Chief Executive, who has advised me as follows:

“the reasons for the acquisition of these properties

In July 2023 Housing Executive received DfC approval for the vesting and demolition of land and properties at Nos 53-57 Fortwilliam Parade in order to remove the blighting effect caused by nos. 53-55 and provide the opportunity to construct new, fit for purpose accommodation to meet housing demand for the area by clearing the site. Vesting completed in July 2024.

Housing Executive is in the process of appointing a demolition consultant for demolition in 2026/27. A Housing Association has not yet been appointed but the plan for the site is for social housing redevelopment”.
