To ask the Minister of Health for an update on when a decision will be made regarding emergency general surgery provision at Causeway Hospital.

Answer:

The Northern Trust held a public consultation on proposals to reconfigure general surgery services between 23 August and 29 November 2024. The consultation outcomes report was submitted to the Department of Health in May 2025. My Department is currently considering the recommendation of Northern HSC Trust Board, including any potential impact on other Trusts. In line with the DoH Circular on Change or Withdrawal of Service, the final decision on a permanent change or withdrawal of service rests with the Minister.
