Question: To ask the First Minister and deputy First Minister for an update on implementation of the Refugee Integration Strategy.
Answer:
The Refugee Integration Strategy and associated Delivery Framework acknowledge the importance of successful integration, particularly when forced migration globally has increased significantly with more people seeking sanctuary from war and persecution. Work to deliver this year’s four priority actions in the Refugee Integration Strategy is ongoing with progress as follows: The establishment of resource hubs across council areas to provide support, advice and signposting for refugees and asylum seekers is well advanced; A skills and employment survey which sought to know more about the skills, qualifications and employment experience of refugees and asylum seekers, including any barriers to employment has been completed. Over 200 responses were received and analysis is underway; Funding was committed to provide regional immigration advice and information for asylum seekers and refugees; and The Executive Office led, multi-agency Community Cohesion Group has been developing a range of interventions to help address the root causes of tensions. This includes interventions to enhance communications which we expect to receive for consideration shortly. Work has also commenced on the development of the first annual report on the progress of the Strategy alongside engagement with other departments to ensure we build on this work and agree further priorities for the year ahead.
