Question:
To ask the Minister for Communities whether his Department is aware of any audit that has been carried out of available cricket pitches, or space for cricket pitches, in the Belfast South and Mid Down area.

Answer:

I am not aware of any specific cricket pitch audit having been undertaken in relation to the areas you requested. However, I have sought advice from the Chief Executive of Sport NI, who has advised as follows:

“As part of Sport NI’s Infrastructure Review, Sport NI engaged with local councils in December 2025 to update Sport NI’s facility database, Active Places. This update would have included cricket facilities among other sports but was not focused on the availability of cricket pitches, or space for cricket pitches and was not an audit of this.

Please note that Sport NI do not hold any information regarding facility availability for use, only that a facility might exist at a given location.”
