Question:
To ask the Minister for Communities whether his Department is assisting with plans for new cricket facilities in the Belfast South and Mid Down area.

Answer:

Neither my Department nor Sport NI has had any engagement regarding proposals for new cricket facilities in the Belfast South and Mid Down area. However, during the 2025/26 financial year, capital funding was made available to local clubs through the Northern Ireland Community Infrastructure Fund and the Olympic Legacy Fund. I am aware that Derriaghy Cricket Club was successful in securing funding through the Northern Ireland Community Infrastructure Fund.

You may also be aware that under Article 10 of the Recreation and Youth Service (Northern Ireland) Order 1986, the statutory responsibility for securing the provision of facilities for recreational, social, physical and cultural activities, including sport, lies with the relevant district council for each area.
