Question: To ask the Minister for Infrastructure for an update on the Active Travel Delivery Plan.
Answer:
The Active Travel Delivery Plan is a significant piece of work setting out how my Department will prioritise and deliver active travel improvements in our towns and cities for the next 10 years and beyond. The public consultation on the draft Plan showed strong support for prioritising connections to local schools, town centres, and public transport interchanges. It also endorsed my Department’s high level design principles, that design will be people-centred, creating places that are welcoming and accessible to all, and that design will focus on the provision of high-quality infrastructure, appropriate to the situation, with safety at its heart. During the consultation, my Department also received valuable local input on the priority routes identified within the draft Plan which will influence the routes included in the final Plan. Officials provided written evidence to the Committee on 5 November 2025, followed by an oral evidence session on 18 February 2026. The Committee’s feedback, received on 3 March 2026, is currently being considered as officials finalise the Plan for my consideration. Given the importance of the Plan in terms of future investment and delivery of active travel, I will need to carefully consider the final Plan, however I hope to be in a position to publish it in the coming months.
