Question:
To ask the Minister for Communities to detail any support he can provide to ensure there is sufficient provision of affordable swimming lessons in South Belfast.

Answer:

Neither my Department nor SportNI has any programmes which support cheaper swimming lessons.

Responsibility for the pricing of swimming lessons would reside with the pool operators, and in the case of council-owned facilities, Belfast City Council and Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council. This is in line with Article 10 of the Recreation and Youth Service (NI) Order 1986, under which each Council is responsible for leisure and recreational provision within their own areas.
