Question:
To ask the Minister of Education to detail when training standards around medication needs and allergy management for staff working in schools were last reviewed.

Answer:
In Northern Ireland, educational settings have a responsibility to follow the “Supporting pupils with Medication Needs” guidance and make reasonable adjustments to ensure that the needs of pupils with medical needs, including severe allergies/anaphylaxis, are met. This guidance is supported by a Department of Health addendum on the use of adrenaline auto-injectors (AAIs) in schools in Northern Ireland.
A review of the guidance, in partnership with the Department of Health, Public Health Agency and the Education Authority, is currently paused due to competing priorities.
