Question:
To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs to detail a timeline for the laying of the sale and supply of puppies and kittens legislation, announced by his Department.

Answer:
Work is ongoing within my Department to draft the legislation required to introduce new requirements for the sale and supply of puppies and kittens in Northern Ireland.
I also recognise the importance of allowing councils, as the statutory enforcement bodies, sufficient time to prepare for implementation. My officials therefore continue to engage with councils and remain open to their input in informing appropriate leadin periods and timelines.
Subject to the necessary statutory approvals, I anticipate legislation will be made and laid before the end of 2026.
