To ask the Minister of Education whether any consideration has been given to asking parents when they register the birth of their child for their preferred school sector, as has been done in the Republic of Ireland.

Answer:

My department has no plans to ask parents when they register the birth of their child for their preferred school sector. In Northern Ireland, responsibility for birth registration sits with the General Register Office Northern Ireland (GRONI).
