Question: To ask the First Minister and deputy First Minister to detail (i) any level of additional funding provided to support communities impacted by racist abuse and attacks in Ballymena; and (ii) any action their Department and relevant bodies have taken to publish and promote accessible, evidence based information to challenge false narratives around migration, housing, welfare, employment and access to public services.
Answer:
We have provided a range of funding to support communities impacted by last year’s unrest in Ballymena; this includes: £15,000 to Mid and East Antrim Borough Council to develop and maintain a Community Hub programme. £226k under the District Council Good Relations Programme (2025/26) to Mid and East Antrim Borough Council, including £50k of additional in year funding to help tackle issues around Racial and Social Cohesion. We recognise the importance of accurate information to avoid misconceptions and ensure informed discussions around the provision of services. The Community Cohesion Group is developing communication proposals aimed at addressing false narratives and encouraging positive attitudes to shared community life for all.
