Question:
To ask the Minister of Health to detail the number of hip replacement procedures performed on (i) weekdays; and (ii) weekends, in each of the last three years, broken down by (a) Health and Social Care Trust; and (b) hospital.

Answer:
The tables below set out the number of hip replacement procedures performed on weekdays and weekends over the past three years, broken down by Health and Social Care (HSC) Trust and hospital site.
Activity undertaken in independent sector (IS) facilities is excluded; however, IS activity delivered within Trust facilities is included. It should be acknowledged that these figures have been sourced from operational data and have not been formally validated by HSC Trusts.
Data for 2025/26 is provided to December 2025 only and therefore represents a partial year, except where otherwise indicated. Caution should be exercised when interpreting these figures, as activity may be understated due to delays in clinical coding.

1 Data for 2025/26 are available to December 2025 only and therefore represent a partial year. Activity may be understated due to lags in clinical coding.
2 Full year 2025/26 data included for South West Acute Hospital only.
3 All activity in South West Acute Hospital was undertaken by an independent sector provider and includes patients from both Western and Southern HSC Trusts.
This activity reflects ongoing investment under the Elective Care Framework, including targeted funding to increase capacity for primary hip procedures and address the longest-waiting patients and wider waiting list pressures.
