Question:
To ask the Minister for the Economy to detail any plans she has to develop (i) flight training; and (ii) aircraft maintenance facilities at the City of Derry Airport.

Answer:
My Department, through Invest NI, has been actively engaging since mid-2025 to position the North as a competitive location for potential engine MRO investment, including direct Ministerial engagement with senior industry stakeholders.
This work is informed by the Irelandia report, which highlights the potential for developing Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) capability across the island. Securing an initial investment of this nature would be significant for jobs, skills development and future aviation investment. However, any final location decision will rest with the company and is subject to strong international competition.
CoDA does not currently support a commercial flight school, but it hosts two Civil Aviation Authority-recognised flying schools offering private pilot training, which can provide an important first step for those pursuing a career as a pilot.
