Question:
To ask the Minister of Finance whether he has had any discussions with the Minister for the Economy regarding potential financial support mechanisms for individuals pursuing commercial pilot training.

Answer:

I understand the costs of obtaining a commercial pilot license are a significant and may present a barrier for many trainees, however the regulation and funding of commercial pilot training is a reserved matter.

While responsibility for this area does not rest with the Executive, I am aware that officials in the Department for the Economy continue to engage with the Department for Transport and the Civil Aviation Authority to ensure that the North’s aviation training needs are understood and, where appropriate, reflected in future policy development.
