Question:
To ask the Minister of Health whether standards relating to meaningful engagement, social interaction and cognitive stimulation form part of the inspection and regulatory framework for dementia care services.

Answer:
The Regulation and Quality Improvement Authority (RQIA) confirms that legislation and standards relating to meaningful engagement, social interaction and cognitive stimulation are integral components of the inspection and regulatory framework for all registered care services in Northern Ireland, including those for persons living with dementia.
Individuals living with dementia are being supported in a range of services regulated by RQIA including Care Homes and Domiciliary Care, either in their own homes or in a supported living facility.  The Provider’s Statement of Purpose should specify the range of needs the service is designed to support.
