Question: To ask the Minister for Infrastructure for an update on the A5 Western Transport Corridor appeal.
Answer:
I remain absolutely committed to the progression of the A5WTC flagship project. I recognise its strategic importance in helping tackle regional imbalance, improving the economy, job prospects and prosperity, better connecting communities, but most importantly the A5 is about saving lives. As Members will be aware, the Court of Appeal hearing for the previously authorised section between South of Strabane and Ballygawley was heard last week. I now await the outcome from the Court of Appeal and it would not be appropriate to comment any further at this stage. However, my priority remains to get the road built and to save lives. Work continues on the remaining two sections of the scheme, between New Buildings to south of Strabane and Ballygawley to the border, with close collaboration between both Administrations on the adjoining TEN-T and N2 infrastructure projects continuing.
