Question:
To ask the Minister of Education to detail whether Higher Level Junior Cycle results from Ireland are formally recognised when young people are moving to a school in Northern Ireland or whether students are required to repeat subjects.

Answer:
Under open enrolment arrangements, each school’s Board of Governors (BoG) is the admissions authority for that school and is responsible for drawing up and applying its own admissions criteria. It is therefore for BoGs to determine whether they will accept Higher Level Junior Cycle results, or any other alternative qualification, where evidence of academic achievement is required for admission.
