Question:
To ask the Minister for Infrastructure to detail any alternative arrangements that are put in place for cyclists, when construction work interferes with a pre-existing cycle lane.

Answer:

My Department follows the guidance contained in Safety at Street Works and Road Works: A Code of Practice that requires suitable provision to be made where construction works affect an existing cycle lane or cycle track.

The appropriate temporary traffic management arrangements will depend on the site-specific circumstances and nature of the works and may include use of another part of the carriageway, providing a temporary cycle track, use of an alternative route, or directing cyclists to dismount and use the footway where appropriate.
