Question:
To ask the Minister for Infrastructure to outline the number of unauthorised flags attached to her Department's property, or appearing on its land, that have been removed since the publication of the report of the Commission on Flags, Identity, Culture and Tradition.

Answer:
The proliferation of illegally erected flags, often used to intimidate and mark out territory, is totally unacceptable and my Department will continue to engage with the PSNI and others to identify the most effective ways to tackle this problem, while ensuring the protection of its staff.
Where unauthorised flags or attachments pose a risk to road users, my Department will seek to remove that hazard. Where there is no immediate road safety concern, officials will continue to liaise with the PSNI and other stakeholders to determine the most appropriate course of action.
These records are maintained for operational purposes and may not capture every instance or the full extent of activity during that period.
I am committed to working with Executive colleagues to identify a sustainable and long-term approach to the issue of illegally erected flags and emblems in public spaces.
I am aware of the Member’s actions in relation to illegally erected flags through her Private Member’s Bill, recognising the policy intent behind the Bill and the legitimate concerns it seeks to address. I support the objective of reducing harmful and divisive displays and acknowledge the potential benefits of greater clarity and consistency in this area.
However, I have significant concerns regarding both the principle and practical implementation of the proposed legislation on my Department.
