To ask the Minister of Health, Social Services and Public Safety (i) if he is aware of the research published in the Journal of Movement Disorders in 2003 that reveals the annual direct cost to the Health Service of a patient diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease living at home is £4,189, a patient whose care is divided between home and an institution annual costs are £15,355, and that a patient in full-time institutional care costs the Health Service £19,338; and (ii) what funding he is making available to allow patients to be treated at home by Parkinson's Disease nursing specialists and to save the Health Service valuable resources.
