Teenage and Young Adult Cancer Awareness Month

Teenage and Young Adult Cancer Awareness Month
That this Assembly recognises the unique needs and experiences of teenagers and young adults diagnosed with cancer; understands the significant impact that delays in diagnosis can have on their physical and mental health, and believes that access to specialist psychological support is essential; further recognises the challenges that young people face in navigating relationships, work and education while undergoing treatment, as well as the additional impact that this can have on their mental health; notes that barriers to accessing clinical trials can obstruct young people from accessing innovative and often life-saving treatments; recognises that around 115 teenagers and young adults are diagnosed with cancer every year in Northern Ireland, each requiring specialised care to support them through treatment and beyond; and calls on the Minister of Health to ensure that diagnosing and treating cancer in this age group remains a priority, ensuring that teenagers and young adults are fully represented in healthcare planning and support services.
