New GP Contract and Pressure in General Practice

New GP Contract and Pressure in General Practice
That this Assembly expresses grave concern at the severe pressure facing general practice in Northern Ireland; welcomes the high-quality care delivered by GP surgeries, which provided an average of over 190,000 consultations per week in 2023-24; notes that despite the hard work and dedication of GPs, the pressure in general practice means that many patients are facing barriers to accessing appointments and unmet health needs; condemns the failure of the Department of Health to provide additional investment in GP indemnity last year; and calls on the Minister of Health to engage in good faith negotiations to deliver a new GP contract which secures the financial sustainability of services across Northern Ireland.
