Extension of Voting Rights and Lowering the Voting Age

Extension of Voting Rights and Lowering the Voting Age
That this Assembly believes that the right to vote in local, devolved, and UK Parliament elections should be extended to all residents in Northern Ireland; regrets that over 12,300 residents in Northern Ireland have no right to vote in local elections and over 74,000 residents have no right to vote in UK parliamentary elections; acknowledges that everyone who has made Northern Ireland their home and contributes to society should have a democratic say in how they are governed; and calls on the UK Government to consider including residence-based voting rights in its anticipated elections legislation, which proposes to lower the age at which you can vote in all UK elections to 16.
